South America 2010

This is the final itinerary of that 3 months Andean trip in 2010-2011. Not exactly as initially planned, except we always intended to see what comes up and change our minds. Hence we skipped Argentina - except for 1 day to catch a plane home from Buenos Aires (we visited there in 2007) but went to Cuzco and Machu Picchu instead of Colca Canyon and Atacama Desert. And we got to fall in love with Cochamo in Chile.
  • Oct. 11: Ottawa to Lima, Peru (fly - 5,835 km)
  • Oct. 12: Lima to Huaraz, Peru (bus)
  • Oct. 13-30: Cordillera Blanca

  • Nov 1: Lima to La Paz, Bolivia (fly - 1,466 km)
  • Nov. 2-8: La Paz (meet up with friends), day trip to Lago Titicaca/Copacabana
  • Nov. 8-19: Cordillera Real Trek and summit Huyana Potosi (6,088m), Bolivia
  • Nov. 20-22: La Paz (bus)
  • Nov. 23-25: Salar de Uyuni (bus)
  • Nov 26-27: La Paz
  • Nov. 28: La Paz to Cuzco, Peru (fly - 527 km)
  • Nov. 29-30: Machu Picchu (train)
  • Nov. 30-Dec 2: Cuzco
  • Dec 2-3: Cuzco to Punta Arenas, Chile (fly - via Lima, Antofagasta, Santiago, Puerto Montt - 6,236km)
  • Dec. 3-6: Punta Arenas, Chile
  • Dec. 7-18: Torres del Paine, Chile (bus)
  • Dec. 18: Puerto Natales (bus)
  • Dec. 19: Punta Arenas (bus)
  • Dec 20-24: Navimag ferry from Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt (boat)
  • Dec. 24-26: Puerto Montt
  • Dec 26-30: Cochamo Trekking (bus)
  • Dec 31: Puerto Montt to Vina del Mar/Valparaiso (via Santiago) (fly - - 913 km - and private driver)
  • Dec 31-Jan 5: Vina del Mar/Valparaiso
  • Jan 5:  Vina del Mar/Valparaiso to Santiago to Buenos Aires (bus and fly - 1,112 km)
  • Jan 5: Buenos Aires
  • Jan 6: Buenos Aires, via Santiago (!), to Ottawa (fly - 10,079 km)
  • Jan 7: Ottawa
